First and foremost, the AR-FPT (Fire Protection Technician) certification develops technical competence in the inspection, testing, and maintenance of active fire protection systems. Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of AR-FPT, candidates will be able to:

– Identify and describe the components of automatic sprinkler systems and their design principles
– Perform inspection, testing, and maintenance checks on wet and dry pipe sprinkler systems
– Identify gaseous suppression system types including CO2, FM-200, and Novec and their applications
– Inspect and test fire alarm control panels, detectors, manual call points, and sounders
– Describe the design and operation of foam, deluge, and water mist suppression systems
– Commission and verify fire protection systems against design specification and test standards
– Prepare inspection and maintenance documentation in compliance with regulatory requirements
– Identify non-compliance deficiencies and recommend corrective actions

– Module 1: Fire Detection Systems — Smoke, Heat, Flame, and Multi-Sensor (6h)
– Module 2: Sprinkler Systems — Design, Components, Inspection, and Maintenance (8h)
– Module 3: Gaseous Suppression Systems — CO2, FM-200, Novec 1230 (6h)
– Module 4: Foam and Deluge Suppression Systems (4h)
– Module 5: Fire Alarm Control Panels and Emergency Lighting (4h)
– Module 6: System Testing, Commissioning, and Deficiency Reporting (6h)
– Module 7: Regulatory Compliance and Technical Documentation (3h)
– Module 8: Written Examination and Practical Systems Assessment (3h)

Assessment

Written Examination — 60 multiple-choice questions, closed book, 75 minutes. Consequently, candidates must achieve a minimum of 80% to pass.

Practical Assessment — 2 practical assessments: system inspection report completion and a live system test procedure. Both must be passed.

Prerequisite

AwareReach requires AR-FWM (Fire Warden / Marshal) or a relevant technical background in MEP, building services, or facilities management, assessed by the Head of Centre.

Certification

Successful candidates receive the AR-FPT — Fire Protection Technician Certificate of Competence, issued under the AwareReach Certification Authority. In addition, the certificate remains valid for 2 years from date of issue.
